a little taste of autonomy

October 4, 2005

This morning I felt vile, totally disfunctional, the kind of day when I too could have gone out with my clothes inside out (hi Helen…) Said hello again to the first 3 attempts at breakfast before working out that sips of chocolate milkshake seemed to be happy to stay put. I’ve had about 3 pints of it today…. All this meant that I really couldn’t do much other than look to the basic needs of my poor, neglected child and left the entertainment up to her!

Becca watched Maths Channel with rapt attention, no idea how much she understood and I don’t care, she was hooked and happy. It will come back to her when she meets it in her “studies” later adn won’t seem quite so strange adn new.

She hates English Express so switched off (without being told) and went up to play on the PC. Two hours of Starfall followed whilst I tried to feel human and wondered how many different pain killers you are allowed to take in one go and can you take Ibuprofen and Volterol at the same time… I decided not to and save the Volterol for bedtime.

Then she found her own way onto Cebeebies via the links toolbar and played there til she declared herself hungry. I don’t quite trust her with the bread knife but she did the fillings and had a thoroughly wonderful time smearing chocolate spread about, some of it even got on the bread!

This afternoon she wowed the ladies at crafts by cutting out really fiddly things for some paper dolls from MakingFriends and carefully gluing htem together, I managed a few more rows of the shawl, it will be finished in time for summer camp I think….

Whilst I swam she played on Reader Rabbit “preschool” with minimal help from Tim then she demanded a chapter of Horse adn His Boy at bedtime and was excited to know we have nearly finished this one but have a few more to read. She really loves these stories!

Now feeling half human again but aware that that has more to do with having enough meds in me to kill the pain rather than having recovered but the fairly robust massage I got between sessions in the sauna has loosened my neck enough to be able to turn my head a few centimeters in each direction.

Need to do more yoga before I stiffen up totally. Need to get enough sleep in the meantime.

Speedway

Last week “we woz robbed” of the Speedway league cup by a few dodgy referee decisions and a fair dose of second rate riding. The visiting fans weren’t too hot either, anyone who can cheer when a rider is down injured deserves a slow hand clap and showing the way to the carpark.

this week we had the final for the Knockout Cup, we haven’t won this for 30 years and started the match with a 2 point deficit from the away leg.

there was some of the best riding I’ve seen all year, both individually and team riding. Both teams rode their socks off. The only faller all night was Andy Smith who landed opn his head but then proceeded next time out to ride the race of his life and blow the rest of them into the weeds. So next week we are going to grab him before the meeting and bounch him on his head several times…. we wone the meeting and the Cup, much excitement, hugging etc all round and the paramedic (who hasn’t done much motorsport) found out why we stood so far back from the podium when the champagne was cracked…. it may be a very exclusive, posh drink but it doens’t half sting when it gets in your eyes ;-)
